Review for Release Gym in Antwerp

I've been a member of Release for a few years now, and overall, it’s one of the best-equipped gyms in Antwerp. The variety of group classes is fantastic, and the multiple locations around the city make it super convenient no matter where I am. You’ll struggle to find anything else in Antwerp with this level of diversity in both locations and activities.

That being said, there are a few areas that could definitely use improvement, especially from a male perspective. The men's changing room is honestly the worst part of the experience. The lockers are uncomfortable, missing essential hooks, and there are no hanging rods or enough hangers most of the time. For a gym of this caliber, I’d expect these basics to be well-maintained.

I would say that it's scandalous to only have a 20€ option to "experience" the gym. I wouldn't feel like signing up if I had to pay for a try out. I think it's insane, I've been to many gyms around the world, beside one gym in Canada and this one, you charge an insane amount for a try out. And don't tell me about how you can be led around by one of your crew members for a free-walk-around-tours or that it includes a towel... Its a petty cash grab. People want to tryout, see if they feel comfortable in the gym and then make up their mind. I think it could be an option to to have a "null-fee try-out" through invitation for friends or family up to 3 per year.

Another issue is the sauna. It’s way too small for the number of guys using it, and unfortunately, the behavior of some members isn’t helping either. While the gym can’t control everyone’s actions, they could definitely be more proactive with regular cleaning. Every two hours seems necessary given how things are. People sweating without towels, spraying oils onto the heating elements, and the broken wooden panels make the sauna feel quite uninviting. And don’t even get me started on the broken lights—it’s just not a good experience.

Lastly, the shower areas also need more attention in terms of hygiene. A more frequent cleaning schedule would go a long way to improving the overall gym experience.

Despite these issues, Release still offers a solid gym experience with excellent classes and facilities. If they can address the pricing for new members/intrested, cleanliness and maintenance in the changing rooms and sauna, it would truly be top-notch.

Je hebt er alles wat je nodig hebt in 1 gym, reformer pilates, krachttraining, boksen, yoga. Alles wat ik zocht op 1 plek. Mensen die er werken zijn ook heel vriendelijk en gepassioneerd over hun beroep! Wat het alleen maar aangenamer maakt om te komen sporten.

Was interested in trying the club, but even just for trying they charge €20. I have never seen anything like this. I'll never know who the inside of the club looks. At least in I-fitness I can bring friends to try out the gym for free.
