Please go to visit and support the lovely few vendors who survived at what once used to be this lively and thriving Victorian market hall! The local told me that unfortunately little survived after the roof needed repairs and Carlisle council said there was no money to do so. Instead they have allowed private developers to take half of the market in return for fixing the roof. The developers fixed the roof and rented out to two large shops. One has since collapsed and the other is still there, and I walked through it to get to the old market. Lucky someone told me the way, otherwise I would have missed it.
Please, please visit and buy your veg at Benson’s, and sit and have a coffee at Silvia’s. For a few minutes you can feel you are still in this lively Victorian market. As if…

The Market Hall is part of the history of Carlisle, but in recent years alot of stall holders have left, nevertheless it is worth a visit.
Also the architecture is of a grand design worth a look.
Toilets in the Market are clean.

It must have been a great place in its time. However, there are very few stalls to buy from. Florists lady lovely. Fruit and veg looked good. The van stall must do well as there was a cue of customers waiting to buy. The toilets are clean a little dated, may be but all work . Would have liked to have visited when it was in full swing

In this Thia food place ,I had eaten there some 8 yrs ago. I went back, as my favourite curry is this green chicken curry. The red version is nice but a bit to spice for me.
They food was very tasty and I.cleaned my plate, actually wanting more. I'm no greedy, and it only cost me £7.00,which included a coke
I was tempted to purchase a takeaway, I didn't but I should have.
My only problem was with other customers, who has bigger mouths than Plymouth, if you know what I mean. Plus they all were junkies, judging by how they talked and reacted with each other.

It's a great place for food there's different stalls serving up Chinese, Thai, Greek, Italian, locals food... theres cafe, fruits and vegetables stall and other leisure and clothing stalls and also a unisex hairdresser. The area is spacious and clean to walk around with toilet facilities at the back end.. well worth spending some time here after walking around the High Street
Popular during lunch time for the shoppers and locals ?

The market hall has improved significantly over the last 10 years and the quality 'around the world' foods on offer from the stalls are of a very high standard. I'm half italian and the pizzas at Romano are one of the best I've ever eaten.
