A village made out of shipping containers. Each unit has a sink, storage cabinet, desk, AC/Heat unit, bed, TV, microwave, mico-fridge, window and a bathroom with toilet and shower stall. It has everything one would need in an interim housing solution until a more permanent one is located. The village is complete with wrap-around case management three meals a day and free laundry facilities. There should be more of these villages to combat the city's growing homeless population.

4/5 only because the food served blows and security needs to grow up and quit acting like foolish characters from a Cartoon. *The amenities are awesome. Dog friendly with a designated dog on campus. 10 washers and dryers, FREE. The most amazing part is that each individual lives in a mini apartment with restroom, shower, mini fridge,flat screen television on the wall, and microwave oven too. *And just like anywhere here in Los Angeles where the general public gathers you gotta watch out for thieves.

200+ interim housing units for the homeless . Key features would be most rooms consist of beautifully modeled storage containers three stories high . Rooms are furnished and come with a bed, microwave, small fridge closet, flat screen TV w remote,, misc items . House keeping does linen exchange and cleanup once a week, free laundry and soap, well lit , pet friendly, three free meals a day , free water. Barbed wire and high security 24 /7, security search of property when entering, able to come and go as you please . Room/wellness checks and bed attendance checks daily, fully staffed to meet the requirements to process section 8 voucher programs and placed on a waiting list. Plus many more amenities and classes available to those looking to work or better their physical and mental health . Pet clinics available as well as other job related events . You must follow their recruiting requirements, be assessed before coming in. Drug free but smoking in designated areas, did I mention a beautiful dog park inside the premises... Ok therapist on duty daily and bi monthly medical doctors visit personally. First class medical services. Plus referrals to dental and visual services as well . No visitors allowed inside and no visiting with clients of the opposite sex. One person per room. Free I D and room card per person. Plenty of parking outside the property.

The cost of this project was 51 million dollars. There are 232 container apartments. That is about $220,000 per apartment. That is a high cost for this type of construction.By my calculations from what I know about the cost of container home construction I estimate that it should have been possible to construct around 1,000 apartments for that budget. Is it possible to audit how the money was spent and what the approval process was? I think that containers are the best way to address mass housing of homless in LA but I think that we can build good quality units at a fraction of the cost of these unites.
