I began seeing Dr. Pate after I moved to MO from FL. I gave him my records from my previous doctor. He ordered a lung CT and a bronchoscopy, which resulted in benign biopsies. He ordered a PET to assess a mass in my lung. The PET showed activity in my lung, a lesion on my spine, and a spot in my jaw. He said I might have cancer. He biopsied the lesion on my spine, which was benign. I didn’t have the biopsy on my jaw. At this point, he informed me that he was moving to Texas and wanted to "wrap this up." He simply abandoned me. Both terrified and furious, I visited my doctor in FL for a second opinion. After reviewing Dr. Pate’s records, he found that the spots on my lungs had DECREASED in size. It turned out Dr. Pate never reviewed my records. Had he done so, he would have compared my two PETs. On his PET results, he wrote that I had no prior PET/CT exams. I would avoid this doctor as his arrogance for refusing to read another doctor’s records of a patient is heinous.

Called multiple times and kept getting put on hold for at least 10 minutes. So much confusion with getting a biopsy done, it’s ridiculous. I do NOT appreciate Ginger yelling at my mother over the phone when trying to figure out how to get her biopsy done. I realize this is frustrating but she is talking to someone who was JUST TOLD she has cancer and is scared to death. Ginger, it is YOUR job to help people and not yell at them or make them feel like no one cares about them when they are DYING. I heard you yell at her because she had you on speaker the whole time. The only thing good I have to say is that the PA was very nice and informative as well as the nurse, but we didn’t even get to see Dr. Pate. If the receptionist is not willing to help people and give information they need, you need a new and better receptionist. We are getting a referral to somewhere else even if it’s hours away to be treated with respect and by someone who truly cares and can help get us where we need to be. We will not be dealing with this place anymore. I just hope my mother makes it in time to get the treatment she needs.

When I got my appointment it I have had to wait 4 months to get in. The day before my appointment I get a phone call at 4:15pm asking if I had an xcray or ct. They tell me they have to cancel my appointment since I do not have one. My wife and I scrambled and found where I could get a walk in xray. I call the office back between 4:50 and 4:55 pm and got hold music...well low and behold I got the answering service due to the phones being turned off prior to 5:00pm. The lady that called me told me that if I could find an xray or ct to call her back by 5:00pm and I could still have my appointment. From my diagnosis's the lady gave me I dont think I should have waited 4 months to see a Dr since it sound like something id failing and since the week before I was in the hospital and my oxygen was dropping very low and the hospital dr said I needed oxygen a night. The hospital Dr found Dr Pate in the hospital and said he would be by to see me that day in the hospital. The hospital dr came back later and he said Dr pate said he would see me next week, so Dr pate was in the hospital and did not dome to my room as he told the hospital dr. The place I got my xray wants to send an encrypted email so Dr pate can log in and use a password to look at my Xray and I was told he would not do that. I have to give credit to the lady I have been speaking with as she is trying to help. Despite the mess it took for me to get in the office staff was very nice and helped me keep my appointment. Dr Pate was courteous and took the time to explain things. I left his office with a plan and understood his rational behind his plan.

I was so excited to have a new pulmonologist in Abilene since I was driving to Ft Worth to see mine. After agreeing to have an invasive lung biopsy, Dr Pate's attitude changed. The results were not what he expected so he turned me over to his NP, Laurie Bass. What a waste of time! During the whole time I was a patient there, nothing was written in my records pertaining to the treatment I was to begin. I had all the special tests they required, but the new medication was never called in to my pharmacy. I have never had such poor treatment from a doctor! My GP, Dr Barris has done more for me than the "specialist" and his incompetent assistant ever did. I will not return. Such a disappointment!!

Took months for appt. We'd. Got a call at 5pm to call and get disk from place that was closed, and Dr office that was closed. Was to call back to Dr Pate's nurse, and of course she was gone. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL !
MY APPT WAS Next Day ! We had filled out all the paperwork early , and they call the day before appt for disk. So sad. I used to grade employees and no stars here.

I have end stage COPD. I was referred to Dr. Pate when I relocated here 2 years ago. I saw him twice. The first time I tried to tell him a little of my history. I was on hospice for 3 years, and palliative care for another 2 years. By the grace of God I am still here to tell my story. He talked over me and had no interest in my past history. He was very arrogant and talked down to me.

My second visit I was having trouble breathing while active. I knew my oxygen needed to be increased. I went in and they monitored me and increased to 4 liters. Dr Pate said my oxygen use at night should probably bereased too, but we just won't worry about that.

I went to see Dr. Pate because I was trying figure out why I was short of breath all the time (turned out to be a minor heart issue). He was utterly useless. He put me through a 20 minute lecture shaming me about my weight including many statements that weren’t evidence-based and spent maybe a minute or two listening to my lungs and asking a few questions. In his notes, he stated he didn’t think I really had asthma (which I was first diagnosed with as a baby and numerous times since including a major hospitalization). He is just one of several atrocious specialists I have seen through Mercy. Avoid this doctor.
