OMG-we had such a good time at this gem of a find. I was travelling with my nephew and we both agree staying at this unusual and awesome place was one of the highlights of our trip. We loved the bamboo walled rooms-enjoying the wonderful sounds of the surf and views. Paul and Charlie and their children were just delightful to be with for the 2 days we stayed in this area. Charlie was helpful in setting up a wonderful day fishing/beach trip with some of the local business people and had great recommendations for places nearby to visit and eat. We loved hanging around on the hammocks in the evening listening to their tales of life, love and adventure. We laughed and laughed at Paul and Charlie's story telling and their adventures in both Austrailia and around the world. Truly amazing and genuine people. We should all live like them. I have a new found respect for Aussies now. LOL. We will be back and we will definitely plan another stay at this awesome awesome place!!! Jackie and Elliot

We stayed for 2 nights in March at the Aussie Hut and wish we could have extended our stay. Charlie, Paul, and their family are lovely and made us feel so welcome. We arrived at 11:30pm but they were there to join us in a "welcome beer", much needed after a 12+ hr travel day. ||The king size beds were clean, comfortable, and cool. The best sleep we had in our 2 weeks in Nicaragua. The atmosphere here is the best. A wonderful family, awesome dogs, friendly neighbours. We we married in Nicaragua after our stay at the Aussie Hut, and came back to Playa Marsalla to celebrate with the entire Aussie Hut crew because they had made us feel so welcome during our stay. Plenty of delicious restaurants nearby. Shared bathrooms were clean and well equipped. Playa Marsalla is an easy cab ride to town, and a reasonable walk from the crowds and waves of Playa Maderas. We can't wait until we can visit Nicaragua, and the Aussie Hut again.

Charlie and Paul are fantastic hosts and really make you feel welcome not only in their guest house but also in their home. The place is rustic and that's part of the charm. No AC or infinity pool. Instead you get ocean breezes and a perfect beach. We also spent a good bit of time in the hammocks and playing with their puppies! Really it's awesome and the use of natural materials (thatch, wood, etc) set this place apart.

When we reached Li’l Aussie Hut, Paul, the owner, welcomed us very friendly and with a cold beer. He was sitting in the main seating area of the guest house with a couple of local friends drinking rum and coke and invited us to join in, which we did for a while. The atmosphere at Li’l Aussie Hut is very relaxed.||||Our room was right next to the seating area, the walls are extremely thin and the doors don’t close properly, therefore we could hear everything happening around. Paul, Charlie and their friends sat outside, chatting and laughing loudly until 2am, which kept us awake until 2am, too. ||||Another unpleasant factor is the malfunctioning water supply. During our stay there was no water to shower or even flush the toilets. The owners considered this normal for Nicaragua but on our trip Li’l Aussie Hut was the only guesthouse where we had this problem. ||||We decided to leave after one night. We asked Charlie to call us a taxi and were charged C$20 (about 1 US$) for the call. ||||If you like to hang out close to the beach, drink and chat, you might like Li’l Aussie Hut. But if you prefer a little quiet and privacy and value cleanliness we do not recommend to chose it.

I first met Paul, Charlie, Alex, Karl and little Maddie 2 years ago when we camped on the beach in our tent and wandered down to their place. At this point it was not finished, but we got to know them and had a great excursion off to Laguna Apoyo and Katarina.||||What a nice surprise to have the opportunity to go back, and see the Li'l Aussie Hut up and running, and spend more time with these crazy and fun people.||||This is not a hotel, it's more like an open concept beachside hostel. It is perfect for backpackers, and families that are looking for a BEAUTIFUL quiet beach to enjoy. There are not a lot of amenities, but there is wifi, showers, toilets etc. They also have a kitchen and a bar. They are very fun and Charlie is full of information and resources about things to do, places to eat and how to get around.||||They like to have fun, and will sit up with you and chat, enjoy beer/rum etc. They had a birthday party one night, and all their friends brought food, and we were generously invited, along with other guests to join in the fun. ||||I agree, that light sleepers that want to go to bed, may be frustrated if others are still talking/drinking/laughing, as there is no soundproofing other than the fan, but this is common in hostels and a polite plea for quiet goes a long way.||||They plan to build more rooms towards the back of the place, which will be best for families etc.||||Don't forget to enjoy chatting and getting a beach tour with Maddie, their 8 year old daughter, who was and continues to be one of our favourite people in Nicaragua. Her unabashed charm, playful spirit and wildness will catch your heart too!||||Keep the barbie hot and the brews cold mates, we'll be back.

Not an experience for everyone due to the house being made of bamboo and pretty rustic in a tropical sense. I loved it and the owners were very friendly, we went out with them on more than one occasion. They seem to be really nice people and the experience was fantastic.

We tagged along with another couple who had previously stayed at The Li'l Aussie Hut. The owners are Charlie, Paul, and family who are originally from Australia, hence the name. Charlie and Paul are gems who make you feel right at home the minute you arrive! The Li'l Aussie Hut is a work in progress on an absolutely beautiful beach! The rooms are spacious and the beds are very comfortable! There is no need for aire as there is a nightly cooling on-shore breeze. If you want to relax and relieve the everyday stress, this is the place to be! So come on by, say G'day to Paul and Charlie and "slip a shrimp on the barbie"!

This place is awesome. Right on the sand. The owners were fantastic. Great rooms. Bars and restaurants very close by. Plenty of wild life. Monkeys, parrots, crocodiles etc... Hammocks galore. Went to sleep listening to the waves crashing on the beach. Just say back and relaxed the whole time.
